Assistant Sound Engineer

Full time

We are looking for a motivated and creative Assistant Sound Engineer to join our team.                     

As Assistant Sound Engineer, you will be responsible for sound oriented responsibilities within Vivid, keeping kit organised and well maintained, assisting with the prepping, testing and supporting sound solutions. You will work on a variety of Outside Broadcasts across the UK and on occasion world-wide, whether with our flypacks, OB trucks or remote galleries. The main focus of the role will be to assist with the prepping, testing and supporting sound solutions, working closely with Sound Guarantees and the Vivid team to further develop your skills, experience and knowledge.

 

This is a full time role, based from our facility near Woking in Surrey. It will involve travel throughout the UK and sometimes, abroad. 

Role Responsibilities: 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prep, rig and de rig on OB’s, with our trucks, flypacks or within the studio or MCR.

  • Help set up, operate, diagnose and solve technical issues on site. 

  • Assist with communications equipment with prep, deployment and operation.

  • Confidently deploy, manage and monitor RF audio solutions

  • Keep kit organised and well maintained in the warehouse. 

  • Proactively action repairs internally or externally with manufactures/service centres

  • Interact with clients, directors and producers in a confident and professional manner to deliver productions to a high standard.

  • Contribute to providing sound solutions that are fresh and innovative.

  • Assist with the set up and maintenance of Dante networks (as well as working with SDI, AES and MADI).

With role progression, on some OB’s you may have the opportunity to operate and mix

About you

You have some experience of audio engineering with knowledge of topics such as microphones, in-ear monitoring, mixing for broadcast, comms and audio routing.

With some experience in production, you will have a good understanding of video and audio formats used for broadcast (SDI, Dante, AES, MADI etc) and principles of video and audio transmission as well as broadcast monitoring. You understand workflow for intercom systems including IFBs and mix minuses.

You are confident interacting with clients under pressure and eager to work on a range of new and exciting projects. Keen to use your knowledge and skills, you want to develop innovative engineering solutions with consideration for the latest trends and technologies.

We would also find the following skills/experience advantageous:

  • Familiarity with Calrec Summa and Artemis desks.

  • An understanding of IP routing and switching, RTS Telex comms systems and Dante audio systems.

  • A relevant engineering or audio degree (or equivalent)

The role

This is a full time role, working 5 days out of 7.

Please note, due to the nature of the business, this role involves shift work to cover weekends and late nights, sometimes at short notice, for which time off in lieu will be given. This role can involve handling heavy equipment and working at heights. 

This role is based at Vivid offices and warehouse facilities near Woking when not working on location.

Due to the nature of the work and our location, a valid driving licence is desirable.

Professional Year Placement Scheme 2025 - 2026

Interested in joining us for your Professional Year Placement? 

At Vivid, we thrive on providing creative, innovative multi-camera solutions for the best names in the industry. We have the privilage to provide solutions on a wide array of events, from a 12 cinematic camera rig at the O2 to a 21-camera setup for a Burberry fashion show complete with an array of specialist grip and lenses. Whether it's a Sky Sports event, or providing pool feeds a news special, we have a dedicated team to create the best solutions, every time.

We are always eager to support and encourage new talent into the industry, and each summer Vivid welcomes a select number of students who are studying a film, TV or Sound related degree, to join us for one year as part of their Professional Year Placement.

This is a brilliant opportunity for students who have a placement pathway at the end their second year of studies, to experience working across varied and high profile events, as part of the Vivid team. 

Roles are based at our facilities in Mayford, Woking and involves regular travel across the UK, and occassionally, overseas.

Assistant Vision Engineer (Placement Year)

The Assistant Vision Engineer works alongside the Head of Engineering, Vision Guarantee and Unit Managers to help ensure high quality broadcast output is maintained and contributes to the day-to-day smooth running of our facilities. They will assist in the operation of Vivids OB and PPU systems, set up and test systems, prep and de-prep equipment for jobs, attempt to find and repair technical faults, with minimum disruption to service. They are also responsible for carrying various duties in the warehouse.

Assistant Sound Engineer (Placement Year)

This role involves prepping, testing and supporting sound solutions, whether with our flypacks, OB trucks or remote gallery solutions on a variety of Outside Broadcasts. They will be under guidance from our Sound Guarantees and will develop technical knowledge and skills, alongside gaining experience of working with clients on site. Some role responsibilities include help prep, rig and de rig on OB’s, with our trucks, flypacks or within the studio or MCR, assist with the set up and maintenance of Dante networks (as well as working with SDI, AES and MADI) and RTS Telex Comms system design, prep and operation. They may also sound operate and mix on some OB’s and Flypack solutions.

Social Media Assistant (Placement Year)

The Social Media Assistant works across the Vivid's Outside Broadcast and Film Production departments to create marketing opportunities by delivering creative, engaging social media shorts, in line with Vivid’s ethos and brand guidelines. 

They will proactively support the Production team, by assisting with filming, editing and production planning. This involves a wide range of responsibilities, from learning to prep cameras and lighting kit, driving Vivid's company vehicle and assisting on shoots to preparing footage for editing using Premiere Pro.
